| Bio: | The old man's eyes crinkled as he spoke to me of beginnings and aging, sad things, things that made no sense and he did not stop to explain. But the way he came to the verge of laughing at my confusion, the glimmer that settled on his eye, his rolling words that fell around me like stage curtains- through all of them he seemed to smile, to lay a hand on my shoulder and whisper that it was alright. This world passes, he said. Oh little phoenix, do not let them devour you. Remember what your mother taught you, the origins of your flame, beginning and end: live and love here, and the grass will remember you and the shape of her body lying next to you, the trees will remember embracing you in shadow. But dream most of all, little phoenix- dream of the things you will not believe, in the stories that comfort from the world where all things are possible. When night falls and the threads gleam again, follow their trail to your ashes and your beginning. This is the journal that grew up with me. When I was old enough it fell heavily around me like an exhausted skin; I shrugged it off and left it behind. But the years pass by, each with a feather plucked from my wings. Patchworked I stumble back, groping blindly for what I might have lost, or forgotten, or abandoned- back to the beginning. | |||||
